Menos é mais — a disciplina do design editorial

O texto completo deste artigo está disponível apenas em inglês.

The hardest thing to do in design is also the most powerful: leave space. Not because you have run out of ideas, but because you understand that space is not empty — it is active. It gives elements room to breathe, directs the eye, and signals confidence. Cluttered design is almost always the product of insecurity.

Hierarchy is the architecture of attention

Every piece of communication needs to answer one question above all others: what do I want the reader to see first? Hierarchy is the answer to that question, expressed visually through size, weight, contrast, and position. Without a clear hierarchy, the reader is left to navigate chaos — and they won't bother.

Restraint as a creative act

Using fewer elements, colours, and typefaces requires more skill than using many. Each choice carries more weight. A single well-chosen typeface used with precision says more than five typefaces fighting for attention. A two-colour palette applied with discipline is more memorable than a rainbow.

Editorial design at its best disappears. The reader does not think about the layout — they simply read, understand, and feel. That invisibility is the highest compliment a designer can receive. It means the work did its job so well that it got out of the way.
